We have tried for a while to find time to plant our summer garden. I finally bought some plants and seeds on Monday determined this week to get it in. Well, this week has been a tad busy, and as we looked ahead to the weekend, realized it wasn't going to happen when we were all home at the same time. We asked the kids if they really wanted to help, thinking we could just do it this morning. Sydney was okay not helping, plus she had 3 tests today. However, Ellie and Tab didn't want to miss it, so we just kept them home. When they asked if it was okay to stay home, I just told them that they won't remember skipping one morning of school, and it won't reflect on their work, but they will always remember that they helped plant our garden each spring.
While the girls helped Marshall with the seeds, Tabitha explained all the properties of soil and the techniques of planting. Apparently they just had a unit on it at school. So really, we are just expanding their knowledge by putting it to practical use.
Dyllie made sure the walls and curbs were secure, and Ethan was the best helper of all. He collected all the dirt clods and put them in the middle of our tomato plants. What a great morning!

Awesome. Can your kids skip school and come plant our garden? Maybe lay some pavers while they're at it...
