Character vs. Cleanliness

Today I was informed that when you get older (and older means about 12 1/2) that you learn lessons by hearing them one time, and one time only. They don't need lectures. Why, oh, why then are the shoes consistently dropped at the foot of the stairs, the plates left on the counter on top of the "dirty" dishwasher, and the candy wrappers next to the garbage can?? I guess if I were to pick a lesson I had to continually repeat, it would be one of cleanliness and not one of character, of which we built a bit of today.

Our daughters are brillant really - this is just a disguise they like to put on every once in a while. Won't it be a total rush to watch them with their own daughters some day!
